.
Here is a work of Laurent Castello, painter and draftsman. This painting, Ascetic IV, is part of a series devoted to tight portraits, I started with Ascetic , old man wearing a turban.
Quote of the artist about the Series:
Through the large portraits, I try to provoke reflection on the modern world in opposition to Western cultures less wealthy but leave more room for spirituality. In the eyes distant and detached from my characters, the viewer is "transparent" which reflects on his own existence, without recrimination or misery.
Ascetic IV, January 2011, acrylic on canvas, 73 x 60 cm
Face of wise
Firethorn
questioning
Fervor polychrome
Driftwood cast clay
Cut to sunlight
Engraved time goes
Swept with straws
plated moon in front Hooded
In battle of hair snipped
shadows and fairnesses
Behold the Man Christ
Gothic unnailed
Enlightened
the far north of the Indian summer
On the frail skiff
From silent speech
Figurehead
breathes the wind filled nostrils
Sub the sails of the rising sun
Navigates
vision on the Inland Sea Cape
