Urban Legend: Nose Itching

Inconvenient Truth. The first European are responsible for deforestation.

Start production of biodiesel from palm oil is pure madness, already well underway, the deforestation in tropical areas will increase. At this rate, each European will need 500 square feet of plantings to cover its fuel consumption.
Once widespread biodiesel, it will take him twenty times. If we decide to use biofuels for airplanes, demand will become enormous. We are walking on the head !
Faced with a problem of such magnitude, it must consider the substantive issues, that is to say nergétiques policies of major countries such as Europe and the United States.

The demand for palm oil is rising sharply because it is cheap, it is used in food industry, cosmetics (soap, for example). The exploitation of highly profitable palm oil attracts the agro-investors, land-grabbing by local farmers, appropriate the territories and replaces the feeder primary forest by monocultures of oil palm.

This is done with the blessing of the governments in place that see only the short-term performance of these territories without worrying about the irreplaceable nature of these forests and the tribes that live in symbiosis with them.

This causes destruction of rainforests and peatlands. The result is a worsening of releases greenhouse gas emissions, but also a reduction of the living environment of many species including the orang-utan.

If nothing is done, 98% of Indonesian rainforests, the natural habitat of orang-utans, have died in 20226. The forests of the main producing countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Borneo and Sumatra), were destroyed over 90% in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and massive deforestation continues to make way for palm plantations.

This oil is one of the most consumed worldwide, we found for example in the composition of a consumer product in ten in Britain. An estimated 5000 the number of these apes victims each year from such exploitation.
